In the late 1800’s the Worthington House was one of the most prominent hotels in the town of Blue Lake. We are often asked the question, “Where is the Lake? Well, before the levy was built the Mad River had flooded the area below the Inn and created a lake. The river no longer floods with the spring rain but the Mad River still flows on the outskirts of town.

The levy is a great place to hike and enjoy the scenery along the river. We have spotted several young Bald Eagles feeding on the steelhead in the river during summer and fall. What ever your reason for traveling to the North coast, you are invited to make your home away from home at the Worthington House Inn.

The historic quality of the house remains intact combined with modern conveniences and amenities that every traveler will appreciate.

Rebecca came to Humboldt to go to school in 1970. Kimberly and Terri moved several years later to be near their sister. The Worthington house was purchased by the sisters in 1993. It had been altered from a hotel in the 1920’s to an 11-unit apartment building and was in a state of sad disrepair when the sister’s bought it.

For the next decade we raised our families, worked jobs, and little by little renovated the house on weekends. Kimberly drove a school bus and attended College of the Redwoods to earn her AA Degree in Construction Technology in 2004. Rebecca raised her family and eventually returned to Humboldt State University and finished her BA Degree in Recreation Administration in 2004. Terri raised her family and earned her BS degree and Teaching Credential and has taught elementary school for the last 14 years. Naomi, the sister’s beloved Mother, encouraged the Sister’s throughout the entire project. Naomi moved to Northern California and purchased the “Honeymoon Cottage” right next door to the Inn so she could be close to her girls and help run the Inn in 2006.

The Worthington House Inn restoration has been a labor of love and the project would never have happened without the dedication and hard work of Rebecca’s husband Bob, Kim’s husband Russ, and the total love and support of all three sister’s children and kisses from their grandchildren.
